Rainy Days
I am stuck at home staring at my bedroom slippers because of the rain. Thank goodness our internet connection was up and going strong since yesterday. What a way to spend the weekend of my first school week.
Have finally managed to get out of our cosy suburb and explore Sydney - the city last week. Transport is relatively expensive here ( it costs A$5.60 to travel to city and back) so we have opted to forgo the monorail (which costs A$4 for a SINGLE trip!) and rely on our good old reliable legs instead. I have never done so much walking in my life.
I like Chinatown! The food's great - stir-fried, oily, msg-loaded, hahhaha- and they sell lots of Korean and Japanese drama VCDs and DVDs! I was really quite impressed by their range - they even have those classic drama from the mid-90s. Most of them are quite costly though..but when is money not the issue? Nevertheless, I did manage to procure a China-manufactured Korean drama DVD at an unbelievable price of A$8! Happy! And part of Paddy's Market resembles a wet market with cheap fruits and vegetables. I desperately need more nutrition, fibre and less sugar in my diet.
Sydney fish market is a gastronomic heaven. Initially I was expecting rowdy fishmongers, wet floors with rubber boots and fish-throwing a la the fish market in Seattle. When we reached at 11.23 am, we had obviously missed the auctions. So there's no choice but to explore the plentiful bounties of the sea. Oysters, lobsters, calamari, battered fish, sashimi! We bought 300 g of salmon sashimi = 30+ pieces for less than 15 bucks! The downside was I ate the sashimi with a plastic fork, which made the experience a bit perculiar. Of course, the freshness of the salmon more than made up for this bit of perculiarity. Oysters and calamari were really good too! The lobster was a bit of a disappointment, but this means I can spend more money on the other seafood when I visit again, which I'm sure I will.
