People are strange
I like to reference things. It makes me feel accomplished. When I do my reports, I will type my references immediately after I have cited any material as it provides an instant reinforcement in my sad and boring life.
An example of a reference of a book is
Gilkeson, G. E. (1997)
Occupational Therapy Leadership: Marketing yourself, your profession and your organization. Philadelphia: F.A. Davis Company.
which is in fact,
[author's surname],[author's initials]. [Year of publication]. [Title of book - underlined or italiac].[no. of edition, if any].[State/country of publisher]:[Publisher].
Reference of journal articles are like
Dillon, T. H. (2001) Authencity in Occupational therapy Leadership: A Case Study of a Servant Leader.
The American Journal of Occupational Therapy. 55. pp. 441-448.
It is almost the same, except you have to add the title of the journal and the page numbers of the article.
More exciting references occur when you cite material from a chapter of a book written by a few authors. In this scenario, you'll have to include the editors of the book as well as the book title and the page numbers of the chapter. However, the names of the editors will have to be type in the
[editor initials]. [editor's surname]. format.
A good example will be
Holm, M.B., Rogers, J.C. & Stone, R.G. (2003). Person-Task-Environment Interventions: A Decision-making Guide. In E.B. Crepeau, E.S. Cohn, & B.A.B. Schell (Eds.)
Willard & Spackman’s Occupational Therapy. (10th edition) pp. 460-490. Philadelphia: Lippincott, Williams & Wilkins.
However, I dislike referencing internet sources because (1) they are highly likely to be inaccurate and unsubstantiated and (2) they are short and boring.
Internet references look like
Smith, P. (n.d.) Shared Leadership. [online]. Available:
http://www.opi-inc.com/shared_leadership.htm. (11 September, 2005).
Oh. Do you know you can reference a piece of conversation too?
For instance, I said to you, "Life ceases to sustain any relevance of meaning."
You can type,
Life is pointless (Hee X.J., 2005, personal communication).
